RSC Chamber Music Programs The Rivers School Conservatory offers two programs of chamber music instruction: Studio Chamber Music and ChamberMusicLab . Chamber music training teaches essential skills beyond instrumental performance. One must hear and play one’s part in the context of the whole, much like living one’s life as part of a community. These skills, uniquely learned through immersion in chamber music, translate directly into skills young people need to succeed in any field – medicine, law, and many others in which the combination of talent, grit, and collaboration are critical success factors. Thousands of career professionals in fields other than music spend their lives playing and enjoying chamber music as amateurs based on the training they received at an early age. Summer Suzuki June 29 – July 2, 2026 Full-day (9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) tuition rate: $745 Students ages 6-12 who have already been receiving private lessons with a Suzuki-registered violin, cello, or guitar teacher, and who have already completed learning the Twinkles. Young Players (9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) tuition rate: $380 Students ages 3-5 who have already been receiving private lessons with a Suzuki-registered violin, cello, or guitar teacher. Students attend alongside their caregiver. Future Players (10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) tuition rate: $260 Students ages 3.5-6 who are interested in beginning Suzuki violin, cello, or guitar and have not yet begun taking private lessons. Students attend alongside their caregiver. Tuition must be paid in full when your student’s application is submitted in order to reserve their placement in this program. About In RSC’s Summer Suzuki program, violinists and cellists ages 3-12 will spend a week developing their artistry and technique in a nurturing environment. Throughout this five-day program, students will engage in daily master classes, learn and solidify new skills in the Suzuki Technique and Musicianship Class, and more. The week then concludes with performances! Masterclasses Each student will enjoy a master class daily with peers of a similar level. Parents are welcomed (but not required) to attend the master class! Suzuki Technique and Musicianship Class Suzuki Technique and Musicianship Class is where the magic takes place! By playing with peers, students solidify their technical skills, develop ensemble skills, and become excited about repertoire they will soon learn. Music, Movement, and Theory Students will enjoy enrichment classes where they explore pitch, pulse, rhythm, notation, history, and other musical concepts in playful, age-appropriate activities. Performances All Full-Day and 3-Hour program students will participate in a solo recital (Wednesday, 2:30 p.m.) and a large group concert (Thursday, 2:30 p.m.). 2-Hour program (Future Players) students will participate in a large group concert (Thursday, 2:30 p.m.). Parents and guests are welcome to view the performances. Lunch and Recreation Daily lunch is provided at The Rivers School Kraft Dining Hall. Not yet playing? We have a two-hour option for students aged 3.5 – 6 years old who are eager to begin lessons soon! They, alongside their parents, will enjoy a music/movement class as well as a Suzuki Technique and Musicianship Class that explores foundational string-instrument concepts such as instrument care, posture, bow-arm development, and ear training. Parent education received during this week will help you make sure to start off on the right foot while you motivate and nurture your young musician! Please note, this is not a drop-off program. Placement Program Director Jenna Potts will reach out to Full-day and 3-hour Summer Suzuki program applicants in the spring about placement auditions. Applicants should prepare to record themselves playing two contrasting pieces that best demonstrate their abilities. The pieces should be from the Suzuki repertoire and should be memorized. This audition is to determine placement in the Suzuki Technique and Musicianship Class. Questions? Applicants should be currently studying privately with a teacher who has Suzuki-registered training and should plan to have their review pieces memorized and ready to go. School Policies Agreement to Policies By signing the Student Registration Agreement/creating your ASAP account, you are indicating that you have read and agree to the terms and policies below. Tuition & Payment Policies Full tuition, or the first payment of a payment plan, is due before the enrollment’s first scheduled meeting. RSC reserves the right to pause all enrollments if payment is not received before the first scheduled meeting. RSC accepts credit cards online, by phone (339) 686-2336, or in person, and checks (made payable to “Rivers School Conservatory”) dropped off in the office or mailed to: 333 Winter St., Weston, MA 02493. New Student Enrollment(s) Policies New RSC students must first fill out an online application and create an ASAP account before enrolling in any courses. New enrollments include a 4-week trial period. Returning Student Enrollment(s) Policies Students re-enrolling for the upcoming Fall semester must confirm their plans in writing with their teacher by June 1. Invoices are sent by August 1, and the tuition balance is due by September 1. Returning students may alter their enrollment(s) during the first 4 weeks of the school year. To be eligible for a refund, the office must receive a written withdrawal notice by August 30th. Trial Lesson Policies Trial lessons are charged at the regular rate. Refer to RSC Tuition Rates for pricing. Trial lessons are scheduled by the department head or teacher. The office and teacher must be notified in writing of trial lessons to ensure room availability and registration. Fall & Spring Policies The Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks long. Specific dates and times are available on the school calendar . Each semester includes built-in make-up weeks for private lessons. Tuition for students starting mid-semester will be prorated from the start date of their first class. Summer Policies For private lessons, written notice outlining the number and length of lessons agreed upon with the faculty must be given to the office before lessons begin. Payment for all summer private lessons and RSC Summer Programs must be received in full before the first lesson or program start date. Financial Policies A $35 registration fee is required once per school year for each student (Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters). RSC accepts checks payable to “Rivers School Conservatory”, cash, bank ACH/Echeck, and credit cards (Visa/MasterCard/Discover). Payment plans are available, consisting of four monthly payments per semester (Fall: September–December; Spring: January–April). Payment plan installments are due on the first of the month and must be processed via a saved electronic method (either credit/debit card or e-check). All balances must be paid in full before the start of the next semester. Enrollment will be paused if payment is not received before the first scheduled meeting and will resume once payment is remitted. A late fee of $50 will be applied to any balance not fully paid by its deadline. A $25 fee will be charged for any returned checks. Financial Aid Policies Please fill out the financial aid form , add the first two pages of your most recent 1040 tax return, and email it to Lindsey Robb at l.robb@rivers.org or mail it to: The Rivers School Conservatory, 333 Winter Street , Weston, MA 02493 Make-Up Policies Faculty are required to make up all private lessons missed due to their absence. One make-up lesson will be offered for each private lesson canceled due to a weather-related school closure or RSC-recognized holiday. Private lesson students are eligible for one make-up per semester for a student’s absence, provided at least 24-hour notice was given. If a student misses an arranged make-up lesson, it will not be rescheduled and no refund will be given. Make-ups will not be given for missed scheduled classes or ensemble rehearsals. Cancellation & Withdrawal Policies To withdraw from a private lesson enrollment during the semester, written notice must be given to the office within the first 4 weeks of the semester. Students not continuing private lessons into the spring semester must provide written notice before the last week of the fall semester. Enrollments starting mid-semester have 4 weeks to withdraw and will be required to pay for all attended lessons. Withdrawal notices received before a stated deadline may be eligible for a partial refund; notices received after a deadline will not be eligible for a refund. Extenuating circumstances may be considered for a refund upon withdrawal. Holidays & Closings RSC observes most national holidays and other dates published on the school calendar . How to Apply Private Lessons The Rivers School Conservatory has an open enrollment policy, accepting students throughout the year if space is available. Private lessons are available for students and adults of any age and ability. Students younger than five may benefit from starting in programs designed especially for younger students. Step 1: Complete our Online New Student Application Please complete our online new student application. Step 2: Schedule a Placement Interview After receiving your application, a member of the RSC faculty or staff will reach out regarding scheduling a placement interview within the appropriate department. These informative and informal meetings will help us better meet the musical needs and style of learning of each student. If your child has already begun musical studies, please have them bring their instrument and a short piece of their choosing. After the placement interview, we will match the student with an appropriate teacher based on schedule and learning style. Step 3: Complete Enrollment The RSC Registrar (rscregistrar@rivers.org) will send you a contract to confirm your enrollment in private lessons, as well as information on how to create your billing account. CREATE AN ASAP BILLING ACCOUNT Ensemble Admissions Students audition for placement in ensembles in May/June for the upcoming academic year. Evaluations & Guides End of year evaluations are held in May and are required for all non-adult private lesson students who have been taking lessons since the fall semester. Students who began lessons mid-year may do an evaluation but are not required. Teachers will discuss specific requirements and preparation with their students for their evaluation. 2026–2027 Evaluations (Saturday, May 15 – Friday, May 21, 2027) Evaluation schedules will be updated in the spring. Registration info for all summer programs REGISTER ONLINE Financial Aid Limited need-based financial aid is available for all summer programs. To apply, please complete the following two steps: Submit the financial aid application before submitting your summer program application on CampInTouch. Submit your CampInTouch application(s) and be sure to select “Check” as your payment method on your application. Once your financial aid decision is made, your account balance will be updated and you will be contacted for any deposit(s) or tuition due. Summer Music Session I: July 6 – July 17, 2026 Session II: July 20 – July 31, 2026 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The tuition rate is $2,110. A deposit of $528 is required when your student's application is submitted in order to reserve their placement in this program. This deposit includes a non-refundable amount of $50.00 which serves as an application fee. About Summer Music at RSC is a classical style, intensive, two-week summer program for students ages 8-18*, involving private lessons, chamber coaching, large ensemble rehearsals, theory and activities. Students of the string, piano, wind or brass instruments are welcome to audition. Each session concludes with chamber group and large ensemble performances. *Student participants must be at least 8 years old (by July 1, 2026) and have completed Suzuki Book 3 or comparable repertoire. Audition Information The audition deadline for the 2026 Summer Music Program was May 1, 2026. We are still auditioning high-school-level cello and bass students for a few remaining slots. If you are interested in attending, please contact summermusic@rivers.org . Participants should prepare two contrasting pieces/movements that best demonstrate their abilities and one or two scales of their choice (no piano accompaniment). Participants should also expect to sight-read 8-12 measures of music appropriate to their abilities at their audition. Please complete both the program application and the audition form to schedule your audition. Counselor-In-Training (CITs) Students can apply to be a CIT for one or both of the Summer Music sessions by selecting "RSC Summer Music Session I CIT" and/or "RSC Summer Music Session II CIT" options on the CampMinder application. All students applying to be a CIT must have finished their freshman year of high school. CIT applicants must still audition as well as interview with the Summer Music directors. Tuition is reduced to $700.00 for all CITs accepted into the program. Program Highlights and Details Chamber Music and Large Ensembles Each student is placed in a chamber ensemble of 2-5 players of similar ability that rehearses daily with a chamber coach. In the afternoon, students participate in either the Senior or Junior String Orchestra (based on level, not age), Summer Wind Ensemble, or Piano Seminar. Private Instruction Students receive four private lessons per session with an RSC faculty member. Younger students may receive additional structured practice time with a counselor. Music Theory Students explore topics in theory and harmony according to their current understanding of theory. This class meets opposite the student's scheduled lesson. Performance Class The Performance Class is a “master-class style” format in which students perform solo repertoire (during the first week), and their chamber ensemble repertoire (during the second week) for peers and teachers. This class is also divided into junior and senior levels. Lunch & Recreation Students can take part in a variety of activities, including a scavenger hunt, sports, arts and crafts, and the traditional water activities day. Daily lunch is also provided. Sinfonia Orchestra Rehearsals: Fridays, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Susan Memoli , conductor Sinfonia is for musicians who can rehearse and perform intermediate through medium-advanced string orchestra repertoire. Candidates are able to use a variety of bow strokes, demonstrate use of vibrato, and comfortably play in the first four positions.
